RATAS MUSIC GROUP

– Ratas Music Group is a new music company run by three industry figures. The idea started when in 2009 mr.Epe Helenius (founder of Poko Rekords, music publisher etc.) and mr.Gabi Hakanen (owner of Inkfish studios, producer and a long time head of EMI’s A&R) decided to join forces and take on the challenges of today. In July 2010 Epe and Gabi asked mr.Wemppa Koivumäki (EMI’s ex-managing director and chairman of Music Export Finland) to join Ratas. Wemppa Koivumaki was also appointed as the Managing Director. Mr.Epe Helenius is the chairman of the board and mr.Gabi Hakanen head’s A&R.

Artists have ownership of the company

All Artist deals are joint venture’s where Ratas and the Artist split the profit. On top some of the Artists will also have ownership of the company and 40% of the company will be split between these Artists. The overheads are very low and instead Ratas invests in the careers and music of the Artist.

Releases in 2010

Ratas will release a number of albums in the Autumn of 2010. These releases include new albums from Olli Lindholm, Sir Elwooding Hiljaiset Värit, Jussi Hakulinen and Tuomari Nurmio. The first developing band signed to Ratas is Helsinki based rock group The Blanko.

The physical and digital products of Ratas Music Group are distributed by Sony Music Entertainment Finland (ENS Distribution in Sweden).
